Supporting Waste Reduction Program in Serang Regency, IKPP Serang Partners with Digital Waste Bank

Serang, November 30, 2022 - In an effort to support the government in reducing waste, especially in Serang Regency, Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas' business unit, PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk (PT IKPP) - Serang Mill, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bank Sampah Digital (BSD) regarding the Waste Bank Management Partnership. The signing was carried out at the Serang Regency Environmental Agency (DLH) Office.

In the same place, the Head of the Serang Regency Environmental Agency, Prauri, said that currently the volume of waste in Serang Regency reaches 800 to 1,000 tons a day. Meanwhile, only 300 tons a day are handled.

Therefore, he really appreciates the collaboration between PT IKPP Serang and Digital Waste Bank. This collaboration is able to minimize waste in Serang Regency.

"We are greatly helped by the collaboration with PT IKPP Serang and Digital Waste Bank. So that in the future it can be sustainable, it can reduce waste in the Serang Regency area," he hoped.

Public Relations of PT IKPP Serang, Dani Kusumah said, household waste management activities if managed properly can actually have potential economic value. Like the selection of paper waste, which is sold to companies as industrial raw material.

"This activity is our support to the government to help socialize and campaign for the waste bank program to schools and to the community about the potential of waste management, especially paper waste." concluded Dani Kusumah.

Meanwhile, Digital Waste Bank CEO Desty Eka Putri Sari said, "Through this collaboration, Digital Waste Bank can sell waste paper or Recycled Paper (KDU) raw materials such as cardboard and paper directly to Indah Kiat, and we get vehicle facilities for transportation to PT IKPP. So that we have the opportunity to get a greater rupiah value. This is important for us, collaborative efforts are needed for sustainability," said Desty.

Desty admitted Bank Sampah Digital has so far only been able to deposit paper or cardboard waste of around 3 to 5 tons/month. Meanwhile, PT IKPP Serang's need to meet waste paper raw materials reaches 4,000 tons a day.

"The current scale of waste banks is still the selection of waste at home, different from suppliers. But this is a challenge for us, to increase the volume because access has been opened by PT IKPP Serang. Hopefully, more and more people will open waste bank points, this is a very good opportunity," he explained.
